China launches bird-like robotic drones to spy over citizens

China has launched bird-like robotic drones in more than five of its provinces to monitor her burgeoning population. They are all super high-tech surveillance drones.
In recent years, over 30 Chinese military and government agencies have resorted to using drones made to look like birds to mount surveillance.

The exercise is codenamed "Dove" and is being run by Song Bifeng, a professor at Northwestern Polytechnical University in Xi'an. Song, until recently, he was a senior scientist on the Chengdu J-20, which is Asia's first fifth-generation stealth fighter jet, according to report.
The bird-like drones are mimicking the flapping wings of a real bird and the drones are driven by electric motors. Each drone comes with a high-definition camera, GPS antenna, flight control system and data link with satellite communication capability.

The scale of the deployment is still small, according to Yang Wenqing, who is a member of Song’s team. The researchers believe that the technology has got a great potential for large-scale deployment in the nearest future. The traditional black and white x-ray handles the imaging of the insides of a patient which involves blasting them with x-rays. This electromagnetic radiation method has a shorter wavelength more than visible light, as such, it is able to easily pass through soft tissue, but it encounters difficulties picking the harder part of the body such as the bones. After all these, a sensor is then used to produce an image based on the intensity of the x-rays that made it through, and the inside body is then revealed.

Diagnosing will be a lot easier now with the invention of 3D coloured x-ray. A company from New Zealand known as Mars Bioimaging has developed a better type of medical imaging scanner that works in a similar way like the black and white x-ray, but it adopts the technology developed for the Large Hadron Collider at CERN to produce far more detailed results. The Medipix3 chip works like the sensor too just like in a digital camera, but it easily detects and does the counting of the particles by hitting on each pixel when a shutter opens. This is far more advanced than what is currently being used in different health facilities. The x-ray will help to sort some ambiguities that are associated with black and white x-ray machines.

When the x-ray developed by father and son scientists Phil and Anthony Butler from the Universities of Canterbury and Otago in New Zealand is used, the Medipix3 chip, which is enhanced with custom data-processing algorithms, is able to detect the change in wavelengths as x-rays pass through different materials in the body. This makes it possible for the scanner to differentiate between bone, muscle, fat, liquids, and all the other material in the human body. There is an additional software that uses that data to produce stunning full-colour images that allow a 3D view of the inside of the body.

Google bans cryptocurrency mining apps from Play Store

Google has taken an audacious step to ban cryptocurrency mining Apps from its Play Store. This is following the step taken by Apple. Apple had banned cryptocurrency apps from Apple Store some time ago.

Its latest company development policy is written conspicuously: "We don't allow apps that mine crypto-currency on devices."

Before this time, the tech giant had in the past banned extensions on its Chrome browser that are used for crypto-currency mining.

This move has forced banks and tech companies to come to terms with the practicability of crypto-currencies.

The ban does not affect all other software that is used in mining virtual cash. Google, just like Apple, said it would allow people to continuously make apps that will enable them to manage mining as it is being done elsewhere just like on cloud computing platforms.
